Have You Tried Instagram Threads Yet? Here's What You Need To Know

As social media trends come and go, it can be easy to miss the changes. You may have noticed something different in your Instagram feed and figured you would eventually check it out…later. Now here we are, nearly a year since it started in July 2023! Or, you may be one of the many small business owners already on top of it! Whether you are new to Instagram Threads or a pro already, let’s explore what it is, how it works, and its advantages in your wellness business.

What Is Instagram Threads?

Instagram Threads is a text-based conversation app developed by the Instagram team with Meta, the parent company of Facebook. It’s best described as a mix between Instagram and Twitter (X). You can share text posts of up to 500 characters. Posts can also include photos, short videos, and links. The app description states it’s where communities come together to discuss everything from the topics you care about today to what’ll be trending tomorrow. It’s great for those who want to use Instagram for more than just photos and videos but want to have more conversations with other users.

How Does It Work?

To get started, download the app from your phone’s app store. Log in using your Instagram account, and you are all set! You can access your Instagram followers and automatically follow the same accounts you already follow on Instagram. You can also discover new accounts.

The similarities to Instagram include tapping the heart to “like” a post, adding it to your story, and posting to your feed. The similarities to Twitter (X), would be that you can “repost” and “quote”. A “repost” is similar to a “retweet”, and a “quote” allows you to share the post and attach your comment to it. Threads offers new ways for small businesses to engage with their followers online. Encourage your followers to share your content on Threads and you may gain potential customers!

What Are The Advantages Of Using Threads?

Although it’s been around for nearly a year, Threads has gained momentum in the 3rd quarter of this year, especially in the most recent weeks. Much of this is due to people migrating to Threads from X because of the changes made when Elon Musk took over. There have been complaints about the way links are displayed within X posts, and concerns around the rise of misinformation related to the Israel-Hamas war.  Many users find that X is no longer useful for following trending content, and do not like the idea of paying a fee (although X can still be accessed for free).

Regardless of why people are flocking to Threads, business owners need to be where their people are! So, why not give it a try? It may be a great addition to your social media marketing strategy!

How Using Threads May Be Beneficial For Your Wellness Business

It’s no secret that younger generations like Gen Z use social media to discover business services and products. The two most popular social media apps for younger generations are Instagram and TikTok. In fact, Gen Z users, in particular, use social media to search for fashion, beauty, food, craft ideas, and DIY projects. They are also using socials to search for topics on self-care and wellness!

Social media marketing is driving consumers to buy from wellness businesses. If your target market involves younger generations, Instagram Threads is where you want to be seen as part of your social media marketing strategy. You will still find many millennial and Gen X users on threads, but for now, the young adults of Gen Z are currently the majority
