How To Find Balance As A Wellness Business Owner

As wellness business owners, we often feel that we need to appear totally stress-free for our clients because we are there to reduce their stress and anxiety. The reality is that life is full of ups and downs, and we may be coping with our own stress, anxiety, and grief at times. It can be difficult to manage our personal life challenges while putting on a peaceful and happy face for those we work with. That’s why we need to find balance to avoid burnout. Let’s explore ways to maintain a healthy mindset while managing responsibilities regarding work and family.

Focus On Yourself First

Wellness business owners are passionate about helping others and caring for their well-being. However, it’s important to care for yourself first. After all, you can’t pour from an empty cup. Your tank must be filled before you can share what you have with your clients. Even flight attendants agree with this concept as they explain the importance of putting on your oxygen mask first before assisting children and others with their oxygen masks.

As a wellness expert, we already know how to live a healthy lifestyle. But sometimes we get caught up in the busyness of life and put ourselves on the back burner. Remember to take the time for self-care and meeting your basic needs for health and wellness. Make sure you are getting enough sleep each night and not burning the midnight oil. Eating a healthy diet and getting some exercise will also help you to feel your best. These are just some of the basic small actions you can take to decrease stress at work and at home

Focus On Stress Reduction

If you are going through stressful times, you may need to incorporate new habits that help to reduce your stress. Try to identify the causes of stress in your life and then think about how you respond. Does stress impact your habits and attitude? Do you find that you fall back into unhealthy habits such as staying up too late, mindlessly scrolling on social media, or even using food, drugs, or alcohol to cope?

Find ways to focus on your emotional wellness to help reduce your stress. What are some new things you can add to your day to help you achieve this?

  • Take time to journal. We often get too busy to just sit quietly with our thoughts. Writing in a journal helps to get your thoughts out. When you feel overwhelmed, write out your thoughts.
  • Practice mindful breathing. Try the 3-count breathing exercise or box breathing. These breathing exercises will help calm you when you are feeling tense and reduce your anxiety.
  • Go for a walk outside in nature. Sometimes taking a walk outside in nature can help change your perspective. Look at the beauty of your surroundings, such as the trees, the clouds, and the way the sun hits at certain angles. Sit by a stream of water and listen to the sounds.
  • Make time for what brings you joy. Maybe it’s playing with your pets in between work calls. Perhaps it’s getting back to doing a fun hobby that you haven’t done in a while. Try new things such as a comedy club or karaoke night with some friends. Allow yourself to laugh and have fun to take your mind off the heavy circumstances you are dealing with.

Find Balance At Work

Whether you work in an office surrounded by others, or you work remotely at home, it’s important to set boundaries with your working hours. Maintain a set time that you log off every day. Go for a walk to unwind or grab dinner with friends. Commit to not checking work email during the time you are “off the clock” at work.

Schedule time off for vacations, or just a long weekend to unwind. Sometimes you may need to take time off work to deal with caring for a sick loved one, or perhaps you are grieving. It’s ok to take time off to let yourself feel the emotions without having to put on a constant strong face at work. Don’t forget to take time off for your own wellness visits! Schedule time for a massage or pampering at a spa. When you take the time to care for your well-being and physical and mental health, you can be the best you can be at work for your clients.
